When Tom says Aeon's End is "generic fantasy" I really wonder if he's played it or just looked at the cover. There's no generic fantasy races, there's no plate armor or greatswords, or any of that at all. It's really about as far from generic fantasy as you can get while still being fantasy and not being distinctly sci-fi. I actually wish it were generic fantasy as I'd like that theme a lot more. Maybe it's just that the artwork doesn't grab him? I can agree the art is mediocre.

Suppose the Cult Leader recruits a new Cultist. Nobody else knows who was recruited. Now the recruit knows who their Leader is, so that if the recruit becomes Captain and gets the opportunity to throw somebody overboard to the Kraken, they will simply choose their Leader, to ensure that the game ends immediately and that they are part of the winning team (Cultists). Is the fact that the other players lack the knowledge to prevent this (e.g. by causing a mutiny) a flaw in the rules, or am I missing something?

you forget that its not just about the mind in this game, speed and dexterity matter too. We had a great time with 8 people. Mindlesss silly fun. Like PIT.

Great picks! My top pick on this list I have played is Sub Terra. The one I would like to try the most is Agricola Big Box for 2. I would like to try Robinson Crusoe as well as Coal Baron 1st Edition. We liked Green Team Wins so might try So Clover next time. I got Parks for someone as I could not think of the bear game... ahhh BarenPark, next time.

Was hoping to hear about War of the Rings Card Game!

I quite like War Machine and props to Grail Games for the way they fulfilled the EE:Cold War expansion, and the transparency during the WM kickstarter printing errors. They did the right thing when so many other companies would not.

Lord of the Rings Risk or Stratego are probably the best versions.

I heard that there is an RPG based on the Arkham Horror series that will be release soon, by Edge. But their 10-stat player sheet is intimidating.

Glad you liked Welcome to Arkham! Look for the official Arkham Horror rpg quickstart at Gencon this August. It uses an all-d6 system that should seem pretty familiar to anyone who's played AH or MoM!

A terrible rulebook is pretty much every Kickstarter game, which is 85% of every flippin board game now! Man i miss the old days. Games now are just churned out with little to no play testing, and sell because of minis or FOMO. Hence why ill just continue to scour the second hand market, once hype on a game dies down.

Ratigan from Disney Villainous. I played him before I saw Great Mouse Detective and loved how he played so much I got a month of Disney+ just to watch it (underrated movie, fun take on the Holmes formula!) Bonus: for my favorite game, Spirit Island, my favorite spirit to play is Downpour, and if we include TCGs, Grandiskuwagamon from the Digimon TCG is my all time fav 😅

I think not including LotR LCG is a huge misstep when recommending best LotR experience in a game.

I like the solo mode of Portals...okay. It's not bad as a little puzzle game. However, I can think of others in a similar vein that are more rewarding.

I was able to fit the medals and extra progress tokens in the original box with the war tokens etc. it’s a good way to have everything in one box minus the two new factions

Caesar! by Paolo Mori. Brilliant gameplay, let down by the most lacklustre art and components. Deserves more love.

I can see how the IP restrictions really held the design of this back - the inability to allow players to 'be' the iconic monsters, means coming up with that confusing veneer of the apprentice as the goal with the fatigue cards, when that's not what the game is actually doing. I've heard from others that Universal is crazy specific about using their IPs, and it feels like this never got off the ground in any kind of natural way to get around the restrictions. Sad.

A nice, _good,_ two-player Pacman game would be a huge hit.

For a two-player game, we each use two sets of trains, we start with 10 train cards, two long routes, and three short routes. It is so fun. We love it! Thank you so much for this very helpful video!

I was looking at Quoridor Pac-man since I love those classic arcade games from the 80s, but it sounds dull as dishwater, so going to give it a pass I think.

Ouch this was a hard watch. Thanks fo the review. It's unfortunate that the Universal Monsters didn't get to shine here. Would have been cool to have a deck per monster so you at least would be albe to fight as Dracula against the Mummy or something like that instead of just random cards for all players.

Love the format. A graphic that slots in each person's ranking as they are revealed would be cool. Three columns of 10, side by side.

I've mentioned this in the past, you guys should really link to your review of the base game when covering an expansion. Makes no sense not to. Sure I can go look it up, but wouldn't you want to make it easier for your audience to click through on another video?

I enjoyed portal, I really like adding the extra pattern score cards.

Uninteresting scoring for the wonders was my only real complaint about the base game. As he was explaining the alternate scoring cards, I assumed they'd be there for the base game wonders too. The fact that they aren't was pretty disappointing.

Just looked into it and War Machine is part of the Manhattan Project line, they acquired the rights to the franchise after fulfilling the Energy Empire: Cold War kickstarter and all future games in the series will be coming out from Grail Games. Hopefully future installments are more on the mark.

Played War Machine as well. I fully agree with all said here. It's too quick and the lack of a coherent rulebook frustrated us during our play. That being said there is some fun planning and given that you are rolling dice Yahtzee style you are TRYING for something every turn. An OK game

I almost backed War Machine because I wanted a game with a follow mechanism. I decided it looked clunky. I bought San Juan and Space Base instead without having to wait for production. Sounds like I made a good call.
